I'm thinking about putting winter tires on my 545i sport pkg wheels, and buying new set of wheels with tires after winter for summer driving. Do you guys think that's a good idea??

Excellent idea. I plan to do the same thing. 19" summer wheels and rubber would be just right, I think.

The only question I have is about the stock staggered wheel set-up on the 545 sport. Would the wider rear wheels work well enough with winter rubber (Bilzzak LM22s) or should we reduce the winter rear wheel width to match the front? I've always figured a more narrow wheel cuts through the snow better.

I will also get 19" for summer, but for winter just go with more narrow tires on the stock wheels. I wonder what size of the tire would be good for the stock wheels?

I took the recommendation of several here, and the tire shop near me, and swapped my 545 sport package (275 rear/245 front, on 18" wheels) to 225s all around, higher profile to protect the rims, on 17" wheels. Dunlop Winter Sport M3s.

Smart moves tab545, 530E60NL and sapkan!

If you really got a winter with ice&snow where you drive, you do need good WINTER TIRES!

Up here by the Polar Circle we need good tires (see my profile). With these tyres one cannot drive in the summer because they would simply melt down.
They are soft in tread and you can't drive any faster than 170 km/h with them.

The leading automagazines in the Nordic counties will publish a winter tire test
late next week, I'll keep you posted!

Actually we only get 1 week of snow here in the Netherlands.. But we have temperatures below 7 degrees celsius for 3 or 4 months.. In these low temperatures and with all the rain we get over here the wintertires are a big plus over summertires. I feel a lot safer with them and my car drives better then it does in the same conditions with summertires.

Honestly, I think that may be a bad idea.
Narrower tires are better in the snow.
Although I do run 8.5" all around in the winter, my roads are mostly cleared quite quickly. Rarely am I driving on snow-packed roads for more than a day or two.
If it is really bad, I don't take the car out.

Also, it may be difficult finding a snow tire that is wide enough to fit on the 9" rear.
