So what is your suggestion?

Metro-Auto ( a local BMW dealer round here in Turku) offered a package, including Style 138 Star Spoke wheels with Goodyear UG500 run-flat winter stud tyres, for a price of 2140?, incl. installation. (that's about 2,670$, seems a bit pricey?)

Any information on the Goodyears? Are they any good?

Thx for all the info

BMW had a winter package deal here in Canada ... Style 122 (17" 530 rims) with Winter runflat Dunlops (they're in my garage so I don't have the exact name) balanced and ready to be put on the car ... for $2941 Canadian ... which I purchased in the spring but haven't used yet

BMW Stockholm in Solna (and this way also Laakkonen, Helsinki or Espoo, if you are a BMW Club Finland member) offered me 17" Styling 116 for ? 900.

A nice set of premium 225/50 172 tires one should get for about ? 700 - 800.

Pay ? 1800 max incl. installation!

IMHO why would anyone from Finland buy anything other than Hakkas? I've had them on my 00 528 for 5 winters and they are superb, even on dry pavement. Expect to put a set on my 06 530. I have used Hakkas since they became available in the US and they beat any other snow tire.....in spades.

There's a lot of good discussion on the topic from the past (search under snow tire). I recently bought the 18" set-up with Dunlop Wintersports and Mille Miglia 5-spoke rims from Tirerack.com (about $1600 USD).
