Iceman made an earlier comment that he occasionally sees the blue glare and he does not have window tint.? What would explain that?

Blue is the colour (frequency) of daylight.
The blue glare comes from sunlight falling into the HUD. You see a reflection of the sunlight in your windshield and this reflection is blue.

I do not have tinted windows, yet occassionally I experience the problem that you describe. On occassion when the sun is positioned just right my HUD Display lights up as you describe. This happens very infrequently however. In general HUD is a great option especially with NAV.

I agree with pharding and Iceman. I never really mind the glare once in a blue moon.

buzzeroo, I'm not convinced your tint has anything to do with the glare you are seeing -- unless you are seeing it often!

The only time I've ever really seen it with any real definition is with the roof open and the sun coming directly in from just behind my head (directly hitting the dashboard).

Other times, I've seen just a tinge of blue (almost purple) once in a while in varying light conditions but it never causes me any problems at all.

Maybe that explains why I haven't had the blues yet since I rarely open the sun roof or the screen -- usually at night or in the downtown area. I plan to open it in the mountains soon so maybe I can join the club, too.

I was thinking that might be why you haven't seen it yet. Dallas must've been mighty hot since you've owned the car...

The only problem now it that the sun may be lower in the sky during fall, etc. so you may never really see it unless all the variables are "just right."

All comments point to the glare being the normal re-reflection out of the hud optics. The only problem is that the glare was only discovered after tinting. Now, there can be only two explanations; the polarized light one already mentioned and the second is that the glare went un-noticed until the tint was added or the tint exageratted the glare by increasing perceived contrast when the sun did shine into the hud.

Iceman and I discovered our glare without tinting...
