It all depends your style and its purpose... If your goin just for looks darker is better IMO... but if it is ment for heat purposes you don't have to go dark...
If its for heat I would go with 40% or 35% and still looks good... If you goin for looks I would go with what I have 20% or lower...
Mine 20% all around and 5% on the back windshield...

5% is limo tint.
20% is very dark.
I saw 25% in rears and 35% in front. It looked pretty good.
See if you can find some cars in a parking lot or at your tint dealer and see what you like. You can probably ask the owners what the tint % is wherever you see a car you like.

My Ride: 2005 545i SMG. Titanium Grey with Grey interior and Anthracite wood.
Where are you going?
What product are you using?
What is your cost?
How many windows?
What Percent?
Have you talked to Wintech about Huper Optic?
I am scheduled to have Wintech install Huper Optic, ceramic film on Monday.
The only types of tint products I know about are:
Metalic
Dye
Ceramic
Typicaly Metalic has lifetime warranty, but will affect FM and AM reception due to the antena in the back window
Dye based tint does not affect the reception, but typically can not get more than a 2 year warranty and I have been told it will bubble and warp with in 2 years and need to be replaced.
Ceramic tint is new, but so far has had a good reputation and will not affect reception.
