I tried this place for my pc screen last weekend and it seem to fit well. Only have to make two small panels at the side to close the holes.
Do You think it will work? I have Centrafuse with nav. Will the screen be placed too low to use for navigating? As a media center I think it will work just fine with touchpanel and computer connected by aux to the stereo.
The pictures was taken when installing the cable so some trims is in the wrong place since it is put aside for the work. The screen is 7" and I was suprised how well it fits.
Next problem is the buttons for seat heating and dtc. Where can I put this? Any suggestions? I guess I can make the cables longer.
Why not complicate things?

Oh, of course I have idrive. Look closely at the pics, You will see the silver trim with the airvents is just put up there so it wouldn´t be in the way, and the trim where the controls is a little loose. The idrive screen is hidden behind the silver trim in the pics. E60 all the way.
But the question is: Will it be useable and where should I put the buttons for seat heating? Those buttons is taken away when trying the screen in the car. Anyone done this? Wasn´t it someone a while ago that said he would do something like this? Cant find that tread...

FWIW
I added a separate screen in a low spot on my console ( not a BMW but a suburban) for nav and DVD and PC...It was too low for me to use and drive > I just couldn't use it like I wanted. Maybe it was just my driving style, but i found that looking down and refocusing my eyes to read the screen was jus ttoo much time...

Anything is possible with some work and creativity. Below is what I did. I put in a 7" indash unit.
The heated seats controls were relocated to the glove box.
