I tried putting 265/30/19's on my e36 M3, and it handled like crap. Just way too much grip, and tedious to drive. I switched to less sticky 255/35's, and it handles much better. But the e60 is a much bigger and heavier car, and it can probably do a large tire pretty easily. A 355, I'm not so sure, but it does look good.

What a bunch of crap. If you want to know which tires to fit to your car:
Research your wheels.
Know your tires.
Fit the tire onto your wheels and then contemplate whether they will fit onto your car.
Adjust/modify your car to your stance.

First off, each wheel comes with an offset. Offset is KEY to fitting ANY wheel onto ANY tire or car. Use an offset calculator to determine approximate tire and wheel angles.

Don't rely on the calculations only. Trial and error is the best learning experience you will have. Especially since every brand tire will have it's own fit. Some have curb protectors (which may end up rubbing in an aggressive setup) and until you mount that tire onto your rim, you may have no clue whether it will fit. Suuure, you did your research, Well after going through a slew of setups, I can tell you that you gotta start with research, but quickly move on to common sense.
Calculate your setup:
You know your stock offset, you know your stock wheel depth from flush. Now calculate the amount of offset needed to become flush. Learn what these terms mean, and you will soon have an understanding of what it takes to make wheels fit.
You know the clearance between stock wheel and strut, now take account your new wheel size. Have a set of wheels with a whacky offset? Spacers. They will SUBTRACT offset from your wheel in the direction AWAY from your strut, and TOWARDS your flush! E.g: Miro 111s with ET36 with a 15 mm spacer will become offset 21, BUT increase your poke by 15mm, as well as ADD 15mm clearance for your strut.
Soon, you realize you have room by your strut, but rubbing at your fender. Camber.
Leaning your tires does not neccessarily create camber wear. TOE is the multiplier for camber wear. No Toe, No wear. BUT leaning them in now creates a perfect way to "poke" without rubbing. This is strictly personal preference, but a camber kit is the way to create the extreme version of this effect.
So, No, there is no quick way to say which tire size will or will not fit. You, unfortunately, have to take into account.... everything.
Stay posted as I will attempt to fit DPE 20x12!

But on my next set my goal is to run the widest tires ever run on our standard e60's. Getting 265/35/19 and 305/30/19. Before anyone says I'll rub like crazy I really don't think that will be the case. A lot of you have said 255's and 295's would rub and wont work. First off my wheels are wide, 9 in front 10.5 in rear. They also have a perfect offset 20 front and 25 rear. With that said I also have my rear fenders rolled. The continental DWS don't seem to be as wide as my Evo v12's that I had on before. I'm thinking it's going to be really close but i can still fit a finger in the sidewall fender area. Don't forget I'm on coilovers to make this intresting. If it rubs a little I will raise them up by a couple mm. This should be interesting, I've only seen one guy run 305's on here. The only problem my tires now 255 and 295's are brand new so it might be a couple years.

answer me this. Could I run 10.5 wide all the away around with 245s?

Probably not in front. You haven't told us what you have.
