+1, 1st one does look better...

wonder if that's just the new knob/other knob for SAT.

It's the SAT shit lever. There are a few threads regarding a retrofit of the SAT system without the paddle shift. This mod can only be done on LCI models.

I'm not sure if it can be done on an 'xi' model, but it's been done on the LCI RWD models.

Anytime Rocky! I'm just curious if the retrofit can be done on a LCI 'xi' model~ It would look sweet in your ride!

The standard auto shift came out in March 2007, the second one is the SAT which came out in June 2007.

They both feature on current cars and the SAT is not much more cost than the standard auto (at least here in the UK).

Yep I know which I prefer to, not just the looks but the feel as well. The SAT shifter is so much nicer but at least you can change it and get fuctional changes too!!! Thats what I did.

Regards,

I'm not sure why BMW didn't just make the SAT standard in the 5 series (excluding the M5). I'm sure that all of us, if not most of us and other E60 owners wouldn't mind paying the very slight cost increase for the system.
