The leading Nordic car magazines came out with a brand new winter tyre test yesterday and the winner was Continental ContiVikingContact 3 (same winner last year).

The problem here is that the only size fitting a E60 is 225/55 R 16 Q (but the 16" wheel doesn-t fit 535d/540i/545i/550i nor x-models).

The Q means speeds under 160 km/h (118 mph).

I drive with these tires in the wintertime and they are simply exellent on wet, snowy and icy conditions!

I was going to order winter tires next month and mount them on my present wheels until yesterday!?
I was driving south on the infamous Rte 3 when I hit a storm drain. Five miles later I got the FLAT TIRE! message from iDrive. I drove it home (~10 miles). The side wall of the Bridgestone Potenza RF was cut at the rim on both passengers side tires.
I called the dealer who was going to get me replacement RFTs for $300 a piece. I passed on that idea.?
I checked out the web for a winter wheel and found Lakeshore Wheel & Tire. I have no experience with this vendor.? I decided to order the reproduction #166 style wheel.?

I would have had to wait a week for the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires from Lakeshore, so ordered them from TireRack, who I have used before with excellent results.
I will post pictures of the wheels and installation once everything is done.

Piloti,

What size did you order them in, i have ordered 17" M5-replicas here in Sweden that looks the same but the delears name on them is different.

Please report back with a quality judgement, paint finish, balance etc, and if possible could you get the weight for one on them (no such info available at my the dealer).

Still time to change my mind , a few more weeks left untill delivery

The wheels arrived today, see attached pictures.
They are 18 x 8.5" in size and weigh 24.0 lbs. The finish looks good on initial inspection. No flaws in the finish.
The Dunlops will be mounted tomorrow, more pictures to follow.Wheels for Winter Tires-2005_1005new_wheels0150.jpgWheels for Winter Tires-2005_1005new_wheels0148.jpgWheels for Winter Tires-2005_1005new_wheels0149.jpg

Piloti!

They look great

I saw mine at the dealers place last Friday, probably the same manufacturer.
Dealer expected to have my car ready for delivery next Friday at the latest

Piloti - Any update on how these wheels performed from Lakeshore? I'm considering the same set for summer tires.

Thanks!

I'm curious as well. Have any pictures with it on your car? I'm wondering if the 18's look too small to run in the summer.

I am considering buying a set of rims for my soon to be purchased winter tires.

I was looking around for a set of style 124 rims

Should I buy OEM wheels - maybe from someone who decided to take their original rims off? or from relaoem.com for about $1200?

I searched ebay and found a vendor selling replicas for $599

http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/wheels/euro/bmw/59475.html

Has anyone ever heard of this company?

thanks for any advise
Michael
This a year+ post so I don't know if anyone is following it, but I'm considering also replicas from wheelsandcaps.com
Anyone with some (good/bad) experience with this wheels/outfit?

TIA
