Many members, including myself have goe from 18's to 19's and have noticed a decrease in ride quality...but that also maybe biased due to most going from RFT 18" tires to 19" non-RFT tires...

Dont ya mean INcrease in ride quality Gene

I dont know about you guys, but when I went from 18" RFT to 19" Non-RFTs I had a much improved ride quality! My handling was improved AND it felt LESS harsh. The sidewalls maybe less on the 30 series tires, but the wall is softer so it absorbs more impact easily.

If you do decide to go 18's make sure you get NON-RFT tires if your main concern is about ride quality...

I have gone through quite a few Falcons over the years, and you feel every bump with those things. Pilots or Continentals would be a much better choice, but if you like the "look" of the Falcons, I had a set of Toyo T1r's on my last car with 20's, and they were much better than the Falcons. Just bring your checkbook.
Yeah, no kidding on the $$$.

Yeah, definitely going to go with non-RFT and most likely M-Pilots.

I just hope I find someone locally who's willing to let me drive their ride with 18s around the block.

Thanks!

Hmmm...perhaps I should just stick to 18x8.5 or 18x9 all around.

What size wheel in the rear GL?
Either way you're good to go. My staggered 124s are 8" up fron and 9" in the rear. A good option to stay in recommended sizes and have more sidewall would be to get 18X8 or 8.5 and go with 245/40s at all four corners. Good Luck. -Calvin

Thinking about going from 19's to 18's to get more sidewall for a smooth ride...anyone with 18's out there notice a difference?
Yup, Tirerack advised me that I would see a 15% increase in ride firmness for every inch you go up in rim size, so going the other way...

Many guys run 19" and 20" rims. I think that would be nuts where I live. Even with 18's the sidewall is not big at all. Also Michelins give the best ride and are one of the better tires to balance. Lighter wheels also help but going down in size sheds weight anyway. Don't buy cheap heavy 18" wheels if you want a smooth ride.

I am the only guy in the world running 18" BBS LM Forged wheels on an E60 but I love em with my Michelin Pilots. They stick great around corners and are smooth as silk on all but the worst roads.

When I get my next car, maybe another M3, I'm transfering the LM's to the new car which will be the third car I have installed them on.

BBS or OEM + Michelin Pilots have always been the best combination for me... and I have gone thorugh a lot of wheels and tires over the years...

I have stock 17s...if I was in CA I'd swap to try out the 19s! I'd like a more firm ride but even with the 17s some of the roads round here are terrible!

Thanks for the replies.

I have the staggered 19 VMR710s on there now. With VMR coming out with VMR710s in staggered 18s, I may just make the move to 18s with the Pilots.

Now, I wonder how much I could get for my 19s with Falcons and tire sensors.
