Default Wheel Fitment

i have some new wheels that I ordered that don't appear to fit. The are 19" 5x120 - with a 20mm offset. The wheels touch the shock on the front wheels. What is the offset do I need to get for the wheels to fit? I have a 2004 525I

what width are the wheels? typically for example on a 8.5" width front wheel, desired offset is about ET12.

But everyone I talk to tells me that spacers are bad news and not to use them.

The whole reason that I was getting these new wheels is because I have a set that are really off. i bought a set of 20" wheels with the front at 34mm and the rear at 40mm.

I know that I would need spacers but when talking with people, they said just to buy some that will fit, which seems to be harder that not.

The 19" wheels are 19 x 9.5. Is that too wide?

I read that the correct fitment is
19x8.5" ET25
19x9.5" ET22

Some spacers are poorly made and are bad news. I've heard that some are even made of plastic!! Purchase the correct required size from a reputable source - remember that longer wheel bolts may be required - and you may be OK.

H&R spacers, there is no substitute for quality. but a 10-12mm with the continuation of the hub so the wheels remain hubcentric, buy the extended bolts to go with them. You will never encounter any problems. My brother has had the same set of 18mm H&R spacers on his 2001 GTI for 140k miles without a single issue!!

I have 3 mm macht schnell spacers on mine. $50 for spacers and extended bolts from EAS in Anaheim. 3mm is the longest you'll want to go unless you step up to 10mm with the extended hub rings. But 10mm will be too wide.

By the way, I'll be installing my 20x9.5 et18 in a couple days. 18 offset works with regular struts, I have pics I can send you for proof later. But since I have coil overs now, the 18 offset isnt enough. I'll probably have to run my spacers still and run a 15 offset.

You won't want too wide a tire either. 245/35, 235/35, or 225/40 should all work depending on how much cushion and how much you want to spend.

I have a 255-35-20 20x9 ET20. I don't like how it sits, I want a flushed look. I have coilovers, what's the biggest size spacer I can use. Is 8mm too big?
Thanks
