Infact I am so particular about the colour coding that I have maintained the Brown wire as negative on my cables as well even though all the other wires have different colours to the car to keep it distinct.

brown is ALWAYS negative. And it kinda sucks since I am slightly color blind. When I see a green wire and a brown wire, I take so much time looking at it to see which has a lighter color. LOL.
On the BMW, brown or black is ground.
Yellow, blue, red, black with white stripes are all positive.
If you're installing an HID kit on the H7 socket, it SHOULD not damage anything.
