What are my options for upgrading non L7 system?

Hey guys,
Anyone here upgraded a non Logic 7 sound system? What is the smartest way to go about this?
Obviously it doesn't seem like I can simply slap on a head unit/upgraded speakers/amp from Best Buy like I could with my previous cars..

i heard that it is even better than OEM L7 sound
