What is "M6 Offset"

I am looking at maybe getting a set of 20" M166 wheels for a 535i. What offset is the M6 offset and how does is it different and/or better than the non M6 offset??

My Ride: 530I Silver gray with gray leather with Premium Package, Logic 7 Premium sound system with Ipod interface, xenon adaptive headlights, Active steering, Power retractable rear sunshade, Comfort seats, Cold weather package and M5 OEM 166 wheels, Sprintbooster. Ceramic Tint all around, Bilstein Sports shocks with Eibach springs, Brake performance Rotors and Axxis ceramic pads.
OEM M166 comes only in 19" with 8.5" front and 9.5" rear width.

My Ride: 10 Honda Fit Sport, 10 Honda Pilot Touring
I went with 275/30's in the the rear with the ET17(M6) offset. I have stock sport suspension. I am running General Exclaim UHP's which are dirt cheap and a pretty good tire, not as performance oriented as some other options though. Hindsight 20/20 I think I would buy 285/30's for the rear which might require rolling the fenders if your car is lowered but 285's are a but wider and menacing. Unfortunately General doesn't make 285's.
Ride quality will be no different with either offset. The ET17(M6) offset gives an 11mm wider stance over the ET28(M5) which gives it a more aggressive look and places them almost even with the wheels wells/arches. This provides a more consistent look with the M166 M5 fronts which are also almost even with the front wheels wells. The wider stance should also provide a handling edge over the narrower stance of the M5 offset.
Most guys that have M166's just didn't do enough research when purchasing their wheels and ended up with the M5 rear offset. They then ended up adding spacers later to get the same look you will get with the M6 offset. Spacers are just plain scary to me, just doesn't seem safe somehow.

I am looking at 20" m166 reps 20 X 8.5" front & 20 X 9.5" rear. I know many do not like rep wheels but I have had reps from the same supplier on Audi VW cars over the years with absolutely no problems at all. Just trying to find out what offset I should go with.

If you're talking about reps, you're in a different ball game.... OEM only come in 19" and if you're doing 20" and replica, you'll have to ask the sellers.
From my experience, reps are not 100% exact when it comes to filament and offsets. Friends of mine recently got rid of theirs due to vibration and rubbing problems which the OEM 166's don't have.

Im not to sure I'd go 166 reps, they dont have the same visual effect at the OEM as far as looks IMHO. If youre gonna go reps, then do 167 miro brand or just go with an aftermarket rim. trust me if you get the 166 reps and park next to an m5 or someone who has the OEM version you'll know why.

Thanks for all the replies. Still doing research and I have not nailed down exactly what I'm going to do yet. The reason for going with the reps is that I don't think there is a 20" oem.
As for the General tires...I have run a set of 235/35/19 on my 07 A4 Audi for over 20k miles and they have been great. No complaints at all for the Generals
