so if the "finisher" on the new 550 a part that you could install on the older e60?

the finisher of an M5 will fit an e60 except LCI's

No this comes with the M5

No seriously, normally BMW think of everything and considering that all electrical jobs start with "Disconnect Negative Terminal" how do they expect you to get back to the boot in the M5.

They have thought of it. If you take out the back seat squab there is a lanyard/handle arrangement that you can pull to release the boot (trunk) lid. It's in the manual, complete with instructions on how to remove and replace the seat.
