My Ride: On Order, due in May - 2007MY 530D SE, Silver Grey, Black Dakota, Auto, Brushed aluminium shadowline, sports seats / wheel, hi fi speakers, mats, space saver wheel and a few more bits
I am still new to BMW and E60's however after a recent remap (271hp & 590Nm) I feel so tempted to hit the DS mode and leave other cars standing. I am fully aware that a well driven Golf GTI would probably get away from me on the twisties as I am still learning about hitting so much torque through the rear wheels and have never driven rear wheel drive before - what a waste
I am not a boy racer but get other cars pushing me from behind on fast motorways so need to know what I can pull away from without being embarrassed!!
Have 90 Nm more toeque than an M5 - does this really give me a passport to leave similar 3.0 litre diesels standing. Get some 1.9 A4's pushing me too but they just look daft pumping out clouds of black smoke when they downshift.
Also enjoy getting 53.2 mpg on 60 mile trips at 65mph - bizarre from an engine with this power
My guess is to avoid M5, 535D (close) and generally all V8 MB's and BM's. Also newer M3's and the usual array of EVO's, Imprezzas etc

Your list sounds about right, other than something with genuinely sporting credentials there's probably not a lot you can't embarrass with your 530, especially with the remap and particularly when you push on from a roll or when you are already running at a decent speed. I'm not aware of any other 3L diesel (other than our very own 535d) that would come close to your 530d, never mind one with the remap. Go out and have some fun and report back

But could keep on their tales and even pull away mine did 8.7 now I was amazed Many drivers were afraid to do over 230-250 km/h, I check always the tires so have not much fear, but you need to have many conditions, now I let the car in D and gave a fat gas than "smashed" in DS and floor it badly, wow they did not understand that still a diesel-with small lousy pipes and all around HAMANN badges and agressive face(front) smoked 'em.
Of course if we make a drag race even with 608 Nm the diesels will not win it but be very close
my next will be in 2009 or 2010 F10 or E60 but 535D and badly juiced with that you can even stay on the tail of an Emmy you make him nervous but V8 and V10 is unbeatable always.
but I like those faces, also teached some lesson of a 4.2 A8 of course he could beat me anytime but he did not
ps. fellow E60ers (did not see any clings yet-why???) I let may be go, but Audis,VW and Merz (except AMG) smoke them sure, try it, the suddenity of your torque is surprising for others but do not belive you beat petrols in real race. Also of course you need Vmax out

Car wise your on the money with rally bred cars (4WD) that will spit you out on bends, I have to say that in a straight line its down to bottle. You should be OK against V8 MB's and give an M3 a surprise or 2.
Enjoy experimenting...in a none schoolboy racer stylee of course!!

A DMS'd 535d... Good topic, have had some significant fun with our two wheeled chums in straight lines, look of of amazement when you stick to their tail like glue!!
