My 2005 530I is around 50k miles now. And I plan to drain and fill
the ATF. I searched the DIY sub-forum, and looks like the following
two ATF options were recommended.
Pentosin ATF1
ZF-Lifeguardfluid6 AT fluid
Does anyone know which brand of the ATF come with the car? I prefer
to use the same ATF as in the car, but dealer only has it in 120 L containers...
Thanks

is this the first time you are changing your atf? at 105,000>?
But, the Mobil 1 did fine for a year and 20,000 miles...and there is still some in there since a drain and fill gets about 60 to 65% of the fluid out.

No, I changed it once before, last year at 84,000 miles and I used Mobil 1 ATF. That was the first time that it was ever changed. Had I known then about the Pentosin, I'd have used that instead.

I would try to get the Mobil1 out. I tried Mobil1 ATF on a golf with a ZF unit and saw problems within 7k miles. I drained it out completely and the car runs much better with Pentosin.
I did a DIY and used Pentosin. Its oem supplier and has the BMW part number on it. I have close to 5k on it since 2 drains and fill. Works as expected.
As far as how often should one do it? Well, looks like MB finally got tired of warranty claims for broken transmissions and have added 39k drain and fill service as standard maintainence on all cars with the new 722.9 transmission (7speed). I think their interval is a safe bet to follow. You can do a drain and fill every 39k. This would get alteast 1/2 new fluid in everytime. I changed mine at 70k so I did 2 drains and fills get most of it out.
Good luck.
