Got the car and I love it. I'm in Phoenix so it needs the windows tinted and I figured I'd check in here before I did it.

The dealer had three options:

Regular tint for $249
Huber Spark (I think) for $449
Huber Drei for $649

Are those prices any good? Would you let the dealer do it? Recommendations?

I read about not using metallic tint and the hazards of getting the water down into the trunk lid area so I'm somewhat inclined to let the dealer do it.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Prices are too high. You should be able to get good metallic based tinting with lifetime warranty for $200 or less. One caution though, some have said that the metallic tint on the rear window interferes with AM radio reception. I went with a non-metallic based tint on the rear for this reason and you really can't tell the difference between my rear tint shade and the side windows.

I was able to get the 36% Huper Optik ceramic for $399 -- lifetime warranty and 61% heat reduction. Dallas heat is not quite up to Phoenix, but did have a noticeable reduction in heat from previous metallic tints.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I just did 40% Huper Opitic Cermic and it cost me $475.00 in Southern California. I even worked them down $50.00.

I would stay away from metalic.

I just had tint done in Dallas and the installer said I had water in the trunk lid area. A speaker was popping and now the radio and BMW assist don't work. What happened? I took it into the dealership and they are replacing things under warranty, but did the water dripping from tint have to do with the failures?

Could be. Need to be careful and use a quality installer. My dealer recommended someone who did an excellent job, no problems. The water issue is real, so don't just find the cheapest guy out of the phone book. You're lucky the dealer is replacing the stuff under warranty.

I am having Huber Optik done at time of delivery. $399 - 15% BMWCCA discount. I have had it on a previous BMW and you can't beat it's ability to reflect heat, and have no radio interference due to lack of metal in the tint.
