Are there any material performance enhancers one can do (in this case to a 545i (2005) with sports package (6mt)) without voiding the warranty? - if yes, what are the biggest hp/torque gainers? - many thanks in advance! - ed.

I think the standard 3 people do that limit warrant issues is-chip/software upgrades, intakes and exhausts

Anything more substantial like super/turbo chargers or any other engine stuff is gonna throw the warrant out the window-basically any "bolt-ons" are usually ok.

The chip-software is a touchy issue-some say it doesnt matter and some say it does-definetly depends.

The way it works is if bmw can link your mod to a problem then they can deny coverage. A chip/software for an NA car that adds maybe 15hp to your car by changing a few settings probably isnt going to worry them a whole lot nor will they really be able to detect it without looking.

Now software things like Procede on the twin-turbo cars that increase boost of a turbo is a whole different issue-that is easy to see on your software and turbos can always screw things up especially when overboosted so I wouldnt do any software stuff to a turbo-but you obviously dont have that worry.

Intake, exhaust and mufflers-I mean come on-the only problem they can ever deny on that is your MAF/O2 sensor going bad-they can easily blame that on an intake so maybe yould be out a few hundred bucks but hard to blame any other warranty issue on an intake or exhaust.

Doing the standard intake, exhaust and software on a 545/550 these days I believe can get your 20whp which aint bad.

I did it on my 530 and am happy with the difference and have not had service issues/warranty issues. Good luck

unfortunately not much, but you can try these:

- use >100 octane race fuel
- reduce weight (lightweight wheels, take stuff outta the car, driver goes on diet, etc)

Swap the gearing to a higher final drive ratio. You have 2.93. Change it to 3.46 or higher and off you go. Best mod you can do performance-wise short of a supercharger.
