Is the K&N filter good at filtering the air or will it cause premature engine wear?

What kind of HP increases can I expect?
Does it come oiled and ready to be installed or is there any procedure involved prior to installation?

Thank you

HMM. I have a K&N Filter installed on my 530I and its just a straight plug and play. However, I wasn't aware that it would cause engine wear? This seems very unlikely. All it does is increase air flow.

That is what I am worried about. The increase in airflow. I read a lot of reviews and most of them are good but a lot also say that the K&N filter causes premature engine wear.

Increased airflow comes from larger pores in the filter media. And larger pores means more dust will get through. Plus the oil from the filter will eventually end up on your MAF sensor (or whatever our cars have) giving you a check engine light.... My 2 cents.

That's what I thought too. And I read some articles confirming that the oil ends up on the MAF sensor.

I had a bmc filter pre oiled installed in my 550, so far no issues.

Huh? Are we on the same page? I meant that oil from a K&N filter may compromise the efficiency of the MAF sensor by covering it with a thin oil film...

Your BMW filter is plain paper (ie NO oil), so no worries

regarding the oil, Ive heard that the problem with the MAF sensor is when the filter is re-oiled after washing and is accidentally over-oiled.

K&N or BMC, we can get
