Hi,
I had my new Replica 19" #166s installed on my 530i this weekend. I do not have the sport package. I also used General Exclaim tires. They look sweet.

The problem is that the car begins to vibrate at 35-40mph. It appears that the vibration continues into higher speeds, but not as much.

I bought the wheels from Lake Shore Tire, and they were mailed to me. The tires were balanced on a Hunter machine by Lake Shore, and I received a printout showing balanced tires. They were mounted by a local tire store.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problem? I read about others with similar problems with Replicas. I know that the OEM M5s (19" staggered) do not fit on the standard 530i, but I assume that the Replicas are made for a non-M5 vehicle.

Does anyone think that the dealer could help (my car is leased), or are they going to lecture me on buying replica products?

Maybe new Eibach springs or is this avoid the bigger problem?

I waited for a long time to get these tires, and it would be great to figure out what to do.

I don't think lowering spring will fix your vibration problems. I would agree with what jchuan8338 mentioned.

Boys, please!

Wheels (rims) are most important thing on your E60, also the tyres
need to be of A1 quality.

I do not recommend Pirellis (nor any other cheap brand) because a
18" or larger low profile tyre needs extreamly high production standards
be meet the need.

But back to the rim...

Rims can be produced in many ways, but the most important thing is that they
are in balance and that the hubs are presice!
No tolerances allowed!

I.e. a 19" wheel must be excactly in balance to fit the sensitive E60 steering and
front suspension system.

Buy cheap - get crap.

It's not easy to manufacure a perfect rim in these inchers, lots of even quality produce
rims are either put in the trash (meltdown) or sold as "replicas".

By buying a OEM or a high quality manufactures rim (like BBS) you get a garantee of
that the wheel is factory tested and is ready for speeds upto...

It is expensive to buy cheap!

Shitty replica wheels needs to be replaced with new quality ones...

So how come the BMW spec says centre bore 72,5mm -0/+0,1 mm ?

And on the E39 74,0mm -0/+0,1mm ?

It is true, though that some wheels, depending on where they come from, are not really up for the job.

Another reason can be that nearly all of the replicas are manufactured with the E39 centre bore of 74.0, so they can be used on both. Using them on an E60 or E34 will require hubcentric spiggott rings to reduce the centre bore, otherwise you will get a rather violent shake.

I spoke to the retailer. He suspects that I may be missing a 3" hub ring on one or more of the wheels (or missing one of the weights on the wheels).

I do not understand what hubcentric means? Is this something that can be fixed, or is this something that I just need to deal with?

The fact that the vibrations are large at 35 mph suggests that there is something very wrong. If I cannot correct the problems, I will be stuck putting the old tires back and taking a hit. I cannot believe that someone would sell a custom made product for $850 (wheels) for my specific car if it just did not work. Thus, I have faith that there is an explanation. I will try to have the wheels removed to check. Someone mentioned the spiggot, and I have heard comments about this before. What is this?

I am not sure that the tires are the culprit. They are the highest rated consumer tire (for the category of tire) on TireRack even though they are less expensive. I am sure that a 19" tire is not the same as the tires that are typically rated by consumers, but I think that consumers would complain (rather than provide the highest rankings) if the tire maker had problems.

Thanks for the help.

Don't jump off the bridge.
To paraphrase from my local super-high-end wheel shop:

Most shops only do a ?spin balance? on the tire and wheel, off the car. This works to 45 to 50 miles per hour, but larger wheels must be balanced more accurately, and at higher speeds.

They need to be dynamically balanced, if possible using a Hunter GSP9700, or Roadforce Variation Machine. Then, if necessary, your wheels and tires may need to be indexed, which is when you rotate the wheel on the tire to make sure the pairing of wheel and tire is round when rolling. Then you need to add the proper weights at the proper locations within the wheel. Then put them on the car, and you're still not done.
Finally, you need to use a finish-balancing machine that spins the non-drive (in the case of the e60 it's front) wheels up to 120 miles per hour, so you can make minute weighting adjustments to further compensate for any residual vibration.

Was all that done before they shipped you your setup? I doubt it.
So find a super-high-end shop that can do all that.
Good luck!

Hubcentric adapter rings means that they centre the wheel on the hub firmly.

As I said earlier, if the centre bore is 74mm and they haven't used the spiggott rings to reduce to the required 72,5, you can balance the wheels until your fingers bleed and they still will shake, as they are not sitting snug on the hub.

The dealer where you bought them should have known and told you from the start. Get the spiggott rings on and you'll be surprised.
