As much as I'd like to SC my 5er, I think that by the time these guys have a reasonable priced product, I'd be in a Porsche or an M5.

Yes, the price has to be low, otherwise Americans users will prefer to switch to the M, although the 545i superchaged is absolutely a better choice (better mileage, more torque, unique car, etc. - but it needs the LSD too)

nik at vf engineering called me with some details about everything today. simply stated vf engineering is looking to possible get deposits for the kit. this would help offset the r&d costs and get the project on the fast track. when i asked total kit cost i was told between 8500 and 9000. they are designing the kit primarily for automatics and are shooting for 500 hp at the crank. nik said he was looking to get 2000-2500 dollars as a down payment. in return we get 10% off the total price. he said the deposit would be refundable. as i write this are working on the down payment contract, which i should get emailed to me sometime today. i'll keep everyone posted as soon as i here something.

I do not like it at all. If they are using a root supercharger then they are adding stress to the engine and should at least upgrade the cam shafts due ot the added stress upon them. I personally like the centrifical supercharger better because it is less stress on the engine and its nicer looking package under the hood. I also will talk to my friend who is a race car mechanic and engine designer get his impression.
Please explain how a positive displacement compressor will stress the a camshaft.

So $8000/?5500+taxes+shipment.. ?7000
Plus installation (1000 ?)
Still a bit expensive .

I'm waiting for ESS specs/price next year .

Anyway, it's good VF is releasing their kit, so ESS, that sells in the US too, has to hurry up .

It looks like a root style suppercharger and acts more like an air pump, and then is compressed in the engine, thus causing more stress on internal parts. I also call VF and emailed Nik, but never got a response. VF was surprised by my questions and wanted to know what company I worked for???

aren't all superchargers and even turbos air pumps? they increase the amount of air pumped into the engine. so, how could one be worse than the other?

Here's a pretty good comparison:

This is the point of my question. The next question is, "Why the camshaft?"
