Just a little update - I've spoken to BMW as my car is back in with them and they have said my car is much slower now than it was when they first took it in - so this confirms that Velocity unit was only working on the stock ECU map. They actually said its the fastest 520d they've ever been in (before they flashed the car)
I guess I've got to take some time off to get my car remapped once I have it back.

BMW did the remap for your car? I thought you were going with ChippedUK?
How did BMW determine that it was much slower? If it's by their seat-of-the-pants feel, didn't you feel the same effect?
Did you try removing the Velocity unit after your car was remapped to see if you felt any difference?
With the SB, it still works great on top of a software remap.
