Yep mine is the same way, only in the rear. The funny thing is I didn't even notice it there until a few days ago when my fiancee mentioned it.

I think the AUX plug in the back is perfect. I wouldn't want that ugly thing on the dash or in a glove box. I just drop the cable in between the seats when I'm not using it. I would absolutely not want to control the iPod feature of my phone through iDrive. Sounds great, out of the way, the design is spot on IMO. I have my first memory button set to AUX and I usually either listen to a whole album or shuffle the whole thing.

question to the guys using the aux on the back:
the sound quality from there is perfect right? At least as good as the source mp3? No noises or stuff like that?

hi guys,

I just bought a 2006 525xi i have idrive but with no navigation which i would like to get, could i just buy the CDs and "plug and play" or would i need to go to a dealer..However my biggest dilemma right now is trying to integrate my iPhone/ipod with the car is their an aux input in the back of the idrive console or cd player on my model? i really like the clean look having the iPhone snap in adapter in the center console but I'm not sure if my year is compatible to do so? i have a budget of about $400... if anyone knows anything to this or links to something i could purchase that would be great..Thank you

Works as expected!
You pair it once and then you just hold the button for 3 seconds and it's on, the phone auto connects, and if you've set it to auto start music on connect it just starts.
Too bad you have to hold the button for 3 seconds though.
The battery is supposed to hold up to 8 hours, haven't measured exactly but seems less so far.
The device auto sleeps after you leave with your phone for a while.
Good gadget to have.

p.s.
it's smaller than it looks on the pic

Some cars have the USB and Ipod connection in the center console. It a optional feature most people didnt get added to the car when they bought it.
