Anyone familiar with this company? There's a local shop, Rocketeer Performance in San Jose, CA that is the Northern California distributor for their products. According to this: http://www.upsolute.com/eng/index.html they claim about a 10% increase in hp for the 545. That would put it in 550 territory.

Rocketeer Performance is quoting me $400 + $25 installation with a 30 day money back guarantee. Seems like a great cost-to-power-increase ratio.

Any thoughts?

Yeah but I'm curious as to their reputation, etc.... this is the first time I've heard of them. Looks like they're based in Europe so I was hoping someone from across the pond can weigh in....

Looks like you're getting a 550 soon though....very nice!

 

I highly doubt you could get 30+ HP gain from chipping a normally aspirated engine. Turbo or supercharged, perhaps--by increasing boost--but I've never seen a normally aspirated engine get that % increase from chipping.

Not to mention you'll likely void your warranty, and every time the dealer updates your CIP (which seems to happen every time I bring my car in for service--like yesterday), they'll write over the chipping.

Other than that, I love it..!!!

 

I think if you could just get 5% hp increase and improved throttle response, as guaranteed by the shop, that would still be worth $425. But I'm concerned about the factory warranty as well even though they've indicated that it won't be detected by the dealers. Need to get more info.

 

Isn't this just a remap (as with DMS etc)? They are also claiming around 27 to 30 HP gains as well, just through the remap so this seems to be in the same ball park, and looks quite a bit cheaper?

 

Wetterauer's chip gives you +25 HP...

 

I got a little more info. Apparently, if my chip tuning is affected by any new software upgrade from the dealer, the tuner will reprogram my car and all they'll charge is the $25 fee since I would have already bought the program. I can probably live with that if software upgrades are only done 1-2 times a year. Otherwise it'll be an inconvenience to bring it back so often.

Back to my original question...anyone know anything about this company, Upsolute?

 

I left Rocketeer a message to get back to me. Are we really sure the tuning would be overwritten during a CIP upgrade, or is the engine control module sufficiently isolated?

 

John at Rocketeer says it's possible but not always for certain but if it does then they'll reprogram your car. Let me know what info you get from them when they do call you back.
