Get some coilovers! You seem like a guy who doesn't like to fool around. With a set of KW V2's, you can adjust your ride to whatever height you desire and adjust the dampening to be as stiff or soft as you like.
A guy is selling them in the classified section for $1200. They normally retail anywhere from $1800-2300. Buy these!

Having recently installed H&R's on the non-sport struts, I must say that the comfort/ride quality is near stock, UNTIL you hit some speedbumps or potholes. The H&Rs (and perhaps Eibach) springs are not tuned for the non-sport struts. The H&R spring rates are stiffer than stock. Coupled with the stock non-sport dampers, you're going to get a lot of unnecessary rebound. Basically, the struts aren't dampening enough. It's good enough for daily driving, but I wouldn't dare track this car or drive it too aggressively in the twisties.
Aesthetically, the ride height is perfect. Coming from a non-sport, the drop makes the car more aggressive, especially with 19's/20's. No rubbing issues here.
I'd recommend getting either the H&Rs or Eibachs and some Koni or Bilstein's installed at the same time. The shop won't charge you more since it's actually an easier job to install new springs/struts since they don't have to remove the stock coils.
I'd shy away from coilovers unless you're really serious about tracking the car.

Marco,
I agree with KnIgHtCoM (Ryan) and get coilovers. It'll cost more than springs but worth it in the long run. Believe me when I say this b/c I went through 3 suspensions on the 545i. A cheaper alternative to KW are Bilstein PSS9 which I had on the 545i.

Thanks for the info guys.
Ryan - you've got 20's 245/F 275/R? Any issues with rubbing?
Another question: are offsets specific to each car or are offsets wheel specific? Thanks for your help with the newbie question.

I'm running 245/30 in the front and 285/25 in the rear. My fenders are rolled in the back and I have a 15mm spacer on my front wheels. Absolutely no rubbing. I 'm even considering 255/30 and 295/25 for my next set of tires.
The reason I put spacers on the front was because I wanted to push the wheels out to make them flush with the front fender and I was getting a little bit of rubbing on the inside of my wheel against the coilover when I turned the steering wheel all the way to either side because I dropped my car on the lowest setting.
Offsets are wheel specific.
