Hello,
I currently have the 18" Individual rims on my 530i with Sport Suspension.
The current Tyres are size 245/40 R18 (Goodyear F1 GSD3 Run Flat, I think)
I want to put wider with tyres - 275 or 285. Can I do that on the same rims or I will need to change the rims. Is there a maximum size with I can go to and if yes how do I find out?
I also want to go with non Run Flat this time since I believe they are better for performance and cost.
Thanks for your advice / suggestions.

I dont see why you cant go as wide as 275/285, you probably will have to go down to a lower aspect ratio however, probably a 35 series.
1010tires.com has a tire calculator so you can figure things like that out....

What width are the rims?
8JX18 ET:20
So:
Wheel Size: 8x18
Offset: 20
Not sure what the offset is.
Also, the advantage are:
1. Better look
2. Better grip
Are there any disadvantages?
Thanks,

Well with an 8" rim you could probably go as wide as 255/40, but not much wider then that. I would check some prices on that size tire, then verify with the manufacture if an 8" rim would be in spec for that tire.

A 275 tire would probably look goofy. They will bulge out past the rims. I'd just go with a stickier compound.

On 8" rims, I would say max 255. You could put those in the back, but don't go wider than 245 in the front. For ten centimeters, I'm not sure it's worth it. At least if you are square all around, you can rotate. If you want 275s, you'll need wider rear wheels.
Wider pros: Look more aggressive, bigger contact patch/better grip, less wheelspin on launch (esp. from a dig)
Wider cons: Decreased gas mileage (negligible), tendency to understeer, cost more

YOu cannot put 255 on your 8 inch wheels. I had the same ones and 245s already bulge quite a bit and remember bmw pics things for a reason. The bulge of a tire effects how it corners, handles etc so you want to stay reasonably in proportion so that if you go up sizes you need larger rims to accomodate and maintain a similar "bulge" if you willl. You need new wheels if you want fatter tires.
I got 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears, that will allow you to do 275s in the back and keep 245s up front. You could also do 8 front and 9 rear with the same 245/275, which is what bmw uses in their 124 wheels. I personally think 245s look better on 8.5, the bulge slightly less and look just right.
