Unsure why they painted it. Perhaps its standard to paint the piping if it's not stainless?...I dunno...

Yo socale39. Yeah, the piping throughout was all mandrel bent.

Depending on where the bends are, there is little to no performance difference between mandrel and press bent tubes (bend radius and type of press bend can also be different). Did you check the strap down tension? How about tire pressure? Fan placement from the car? There are a lot of factors that need to be considered. In the end, its whatever you are happy with. When we test the exhausts, they are dyno tested in a span of several weeks and several dyno sessions with taking the stock one on and off. Its only testing it this way that you can truly see the pattern of performance improvement. We have tested stuff one day and saw a different result another day.

It would be nice to see vids of the car and what it sounds like. Is there another 550 in your area you can do some runs with?

Can you please call my shop and talk to them directly? I did not operate the dyno myself and they would be able to answer these sorts of questions better than I would since they are the tuning professionals. They should be in the same timezone as you. I did wonder why they paid particular attention to the strap tension and strap location though. Makes sense now considering that is apperantly a variable.

I'm happy I got a performance increase on a budget, quad tips, and a better sound.

Yeah, hunting down a camera with good audio/video is already on my todo list.

Let me know if you find a stock 2007 automatic 550i with roughly 40,000 miles and I'll do it. I don't know anybody who has one off-hand.

Exactly! That's why I thought it was odd they actually used it. Not to mention it takes more time to fabricate.

Ok, so there are a ton of variables when it comes to custom exhaust setups. I am just happy to see someone proved it is possible to make hp with a Quad Magnaflow System. Nice Numbers BTW! This doesn't mean all quads will make horsepower, but it shows if done properly, it is possible.

^^^Exactly. If he showed less than 5+hp gain I would say those variables could have easily swayed numbers however at 11hp gain, I think its fair to say this quad setup will probably show positive results anytime.
