....on whether it is a good thing to have to protect the lining of the trunk?

My Ride: 2011, X6 Hybrid . Alpine White , every option. 20" Conti' NON runflats,OEM trunk spoiler , LUX V3 AE's , HP Thunder Fogs , custom front bumper reflector delete........
I think they are great. I have one in my X5 and for lugging dirty stuff, tools ,wet stuff etc. it really makes clean up a cinch. I don't have one in my car because I don' really use the trunk much.

Definitely keeps the trunk clean if you use it often.
