I've only had my car for a week, and I'm already considering my first mod.... 19" OEM style 166 wheels. My car currently has the stock 18" sport package wheels w runflats. Not knowing anything about wheels and how they work, is there anything I need to consider? Will the OEM 166's fit properly on a 545i by just bolting them on, or is there something else I need to do? Will the different size wheels affect the speedometer/odometer readings, and does an adjustment need to be made to those? I notice that the 166 rear tires are wider than the front ones... is this a problem? What other questions should I ask the tech?

If anyone who has replaced stock 18's with 166 19's can guide me through it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

there's nothing wrong with a staggered set-up. you just wont be able to rotate the wheels. yes they will fit perfectly on a 545 but not with the tires of an M5. recommended tire sizes are 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear. the offsets of the oem 166s i believe are front ET12 and rear ET28. they will fit, but if you want the rear wheels to be flushed with the rear fender, and for a more wider stance, you could add 12mm spacers. and also for a better ride, no more runflats. hope this helps.

So if I go with 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear tires they will fit okay? Since I can't use the M5 tires, what brand/model of tire would you recommend. Can I get the 12mm spacers from BMW, or are they aftermarket. and are they needed on all 4 tires or just the front?

Thanks.

you can't rotate, but you can unmount and remount the tires so thats the inside is now on the outside and vicer-versa to prolong the tire life.

I also recommend lowering your car when you get new wheels..

Yup, many many users have this setup for the 19", no problem whatsoever (I have this tires setup on a different 19" wheel). For tires, the top notch gotta be Michelin PS2, but they will cost you an arm and a leg... A cheaper alternative is General Exclaim UHP, cost less than 1/2 of PS2, yet it has pretty decent handling. Check out tirerack for their ratings (and other tires as well). I have these tires personally and it's really really good for the price. The spacers are aftermarket, and I THINK you just put them in the rear. That is purely for looks, and do a search and you will hear different opinions. I personally won't use them to enhance the look, I think the 19" M5 wheels is pretty standout and you won't notice too much if the wheels is really flush or not...

Since you have sport package, you may get back without lowering it. Personally I won't lower it since although it looks nicer, it's quite easy to scrap the bottom of the front bumper... I don't have SP so it's almost a must to lower it with a 19" combo.

If I were you just side step the 19" and go straight to 20" wheels.

Yeh i have 20in wheels, looking stunning on lowered eibach springs, however the ride is a bit choppy on bumby roads, otherwise no real concern

in the latest PBMW magazine this month i saw a E63 645i with 26in spinners....!!!!!!!!!

My setup (described below) is pretty standard, except that most get the 15mm spacers instead of 20mm.

Looking back, I think that 20" is the way to go to really make an impact, but my 19" wheels are nice too.
