I'm not a fan of license plate frames at all. It seems to me that using them just calls attention to something that you're trying to ignore.

If you're primary reason for using this is for the "handle," you need to practice using the handles BMW has provided already on the inside of the trunk. Most people don't know about these so they never use them. Others know about them but can't figure out how they work.

It's simple, the trick is to grab one and swiftly pull straight down with your elbow bent about 90 degrees. As you pull down, you'r arm will naturally swing out of the way and the trunk will close. All you really need to practice is the force in which you pull.

Trust me when I say that I've not touched any paint (or dirty license plate) while closing a trunk since 1998 (using the handle on the E39.)

ehhh not a bad idea but I personally don't like frames around the plate... like Rudy stated I sometimes use that lever on the inside of the trunk.. or I just use the old hand on liscence plate theory I never...EVER touch the paint as well and when people go to close my trunk by the paint I slap their hands

i've been using the same way to close my trunk for years in different cars. however, as i mentioned in my other posts before, my trunk is kind of hard to close. i tried it on a loaner, also a e60, and it was way easier. i asked my tech to adjust it a bit but he refused . i managed to close it with extra force but my gf has to close it by pushing from the top of the trunk, the typical way . anyway, that frame looks a little too bulky for me . good idea though .

Hey, alohalc, tell your tech he is full of sh*t !

It is easy to adjust the springs, BMW designed them to be adjusted. In the pic you can see where the spring can be adjusted...

I agree with Rudy. Once you get the hang of using the internal trunk handles you won't have any use for a handle on the outside.
