So I took in my 550 to the dealer, and he says that my rear right tire has a sidewall bulge and I should replace the tire ASAP.

I currently have 166 rims, and Toyo Proxes T1R tires on them

245/35/ZR19 in the front and 285/30/ZR19 in the back.

The fronts still have some tread on them, albeit probably only a few thousand miles left.

I know everyone loves the michelin pilot sport ps2, but priced out at Costco it's $2K for 4 tires!

So do I..

1. replace the 2 rear tires with new Toyo's (about $280/piece online), although I probably need to call around

2. Replace all 4 with the PS2's. $2k costco

I like the toyo's, I've had them for 12k miles, quiet, feel like the grip in dry, wet. Really haven't had a complaint except for of course this sidewall issue. Not sure if that's just a normal thing, or it's a quality issue, or just bad luck.

Would love help here on this.

How many miles do people get with the PS2's? normal driving.

Why just those two tyres? I would plum for Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics, cheaper than the PS2s, longer lasting than the T1rs and win nearly all the tyre tests they are entered into. Not much more than the toyos either.

I've heard that Toyo's get slippery when wet.... Between the two, I'd go with PS2 for sure. I presently use CSC3 tires with my 166s and they are really nice.

+1

Between the two, I probably would pay the extra for the Michelin PS2s... My other choices would be the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s or the Continental Sport Contact 3s.

I love the T1R's. I see no reason to pay double for the PS2's. These tires do just as good of job. I pushed my car hard as hell this weekend and it handled like a champ.

The Toyos are good tires, and honestly you're going to spend a heck of a lot of money to have tires that don't last very long anyway (Michellin). No matter which tire you go with, they don't last really long so why spend the extra money if you're getting basically the same performance and longevity?

That's what i'm struggling with. If i only replace the rear tires now I have to get toyo's, and of course eventually i'd have to replace the front with toyo's.

I hadn't considered other options since if I was not getting toyo's, i'd go all the way up to the michellin's and replace all 4.

I don't think i'm tracking the car anytime soon. I'd love to someday, but we'll see how that goes.

I drive pretty normal commute, try to take nice hard corners when i can, and sometimes turn off traction control to get a better takeoff.

Should I save the difference and get a software upgrade and a radar detector?

Maybe you should try General Exclaims. $600 for 4 at TireRack (with shipping).
They seem to do just fine. They are quiet and have good traction in wet and dry conditions. Many of us have them with no complaints. TireRack often runs low on inventories on the 275 size, so you always need to check.

You should not have your installation work done at Cosco (although I am sure that you were just talking about the purchase price). You need to have a Hunter 9700 Road Force machine for the balancing with #166s.
