Man I still can't decide. Titanium grey metallic is such an odd color for some reason. On certain lighting it looks grey, and some times even dark green or even brown with some other hues thrown in. It seems the best colors for the body are either really dark or light.
I'm looking for a clean look with some contrast. I also want a timeless look. Gunmetal would match the body color too much. Black seems to match every color but would black wheels make the car look too dated or too agressive? Should I go with silver or hyper black as a compromise?
What do you guys think?

Silver or Black look great!!! Look for member Frank5er or Vetteman31 they both have beautiful cars with wheels that look great (Frank's BBS's and Vetteman's Rad's are some of the best looking wheels ever put on an E60)

i see where you are coming from!
Forget lip, forget color contrast,go with concave rims like Vellano CV 1's.
That will look the bomb with any color car IMO.
Check out their website.
BTW,i bought a set for my black 550i this week so i'm fizzin on them, lol.

Man, I'm really digging these Vossen Wheels VVS-CV1. It seems I get the best of both worlds with the silver spoke with black sides:

I just hope they'll start making them in 19"
