HI All,

Just got my self a 04 530i which came with dunlop run flats which needed to be replaced from wear and tear. I was going to purchase runflats again for the orignal rims but my stupidity resulted in me getting replica M5 rims and bridgestone tires. I wish I hadn't gotten them becuase the drive is pathetic, It dosn't drive like BMW. It shakes between 90 an 120 kmh.

So im going back to OEM's 18" that came with the car. I had 245 40 R18 should I stick with those in run flats or reguler tires. And If I get winters do I really need to go one size down and get 17"s. or will can I stick with 18" and get winters for them. I live in Toronto, Canada if you all know what the winter is like out here.

Please advise

most including myself will recommend going with regular tires and ditching the runflats, or you can always go for a different wheel setup as well. honestly there havent been any reputable 166 replica wheels thus far. also, welcome and enjoy the forums.

I have an e60 530i Sport with Style 123 wheel and it came 18-inch run-flats 245/40R18. I also have a compact spare tire kit from the factory in the trunk. I switched to these non-RFT tires and love them:

Potenza RE760 Sport 245/40R18 97W XL UTQG 340 A A

Great in summer, wet or dry. The wear rating is a lot better than the "140" for the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT.

The RE760 was included in a Car and Driver comparison:
Tire Test: Nine Affordable Summer Tires Take On the Michelin PS2 - Comparison Tests

For winter, I switch to 17-inch Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 (Studless Ice & Snow) 225/50R17 94R.

are you sure the wheels you bought are the correct hub/bore size for an e60? perhaps the shaking can be resolved with some hub centric rings....

As an added service to everyone on this site, can you tell us where you got the replicas so no one else makes the same mistake?

Second, if you needed hubcentric rings at all (meaning that your bore size was 74.1 mm), you got the worst kind of replicas.
Some make replicas with the right bore size (72.56mm).

Finally, you should make sure that you had the tires balanced on a Road Force machine. If you did not, chances are that you will have some vibration.
This means that Tire Kingdom or Goodyear may not be the place to go (where they have the old Coats balancing machines).

Sorry about your problems. At least you made it here to prevent any future problems.

On another matter - where will you be servicing your car ?
I have a 2004 530 for about 10 months and also live in Toronto, but am uncertain where to go for servicing - the dealers charge too much !

Go back to your OEM's and ditch the run flats. Michelin Pilot sports A/S will make the car drive incredible.

If you can afford another set of wheels and want aftermarket go with BBS or OZ if want to be certain of not having problems.

Don't feel bad, I learned the same hard lessons the same way. Everyone does a ton of research the SECOND time they buy wheels and tires... and most reps suck.

You can go with 18" snows but its easier to just get a winter tire/wheel package in which case going down a size saves money and a narrower tire performs better in the snow.
