Guys, can someone tell me if the 285 tires fit the 166 Wheels on a 550I ? why do some of you use the 275 with Spacers at the back ? Do they Rub ? I heard spacers are not very safe.

Thanks
Pablo

I mounted OEM 166s with 275 Pilot Sport 2 yesterday ... I think you can fit also 285

Several members have put big rubber on the 166s. jsal went way big with 285/35. The Master himself, Lomag, went with 285/30.
I went standard at 275/30 because that was the largest tire size available for the Bridgestones.

275 is the recommended tire size for 19s. I went with what was recommended but didn't like the look thus having spacers put on the rear. What have you hear about spacers not being safe?

285s are ok. but you need to find correct sizes for the fronts (that will fit the front without rub) to match the rear... meaning correct rolling diameter tire sizes. Its much easier to find matching front and rear tire sizes that will fit the front and have matching rolling diameter for the rear. in 245 and 275 widths

with 275/30/19R the matching front rolling diameter tire will be 245/35/19F.

if you go with 285/35/19 the LARGEST fronts that will barely fit will be 245/40/19F and that will still rub a tiny bit under full compression of the shocks and springs.

255/xx/19 fronts wont fit the Standard E60 fenders.

Ok i get it , this means i canno't use 285/35/19 for the rear and 245/35/19 on the front due to the rolling diameter matching?

I like the wide M5 look , is teh best bet 275/30/19R and 245/35/19F ? with 13 mm Spacers on the back?

I wanted to use spacers on my previous car, a 2004 S4 , and the installer at discount tire told me to go for a wider tire instead of using spacers. He said it was safer. I am not really sure why, maybe someone else can let us know if it is tru or not.

Thanks
Pablo

Why the need to 'match' the rolling diameter front to back? Shouldn't be an issue!?
