For those who can't afford the mighty PS2...

Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S. All season tread compound but uses the summer only mold pattern. Very good tire, predictable break away characteristics when you really push it, quiet, nice ride. $400 less a set than PS2's and they last a lot longer (almost double tread life). Had a set on my 525i and just got another set from tire rack for my 545i with BBS LM's.

PS2's are the best but unless your drive the car so hard it is sliding off the road you never use the performance advantage that you pay big $ for. My .02

 

I had P Zero Nero M&S tires on my '01 740i and found them to be very acceptable for the over the road driving I was doing at the time. For the first 75% of the treadlife their performance in wet weather was predictable with gradual break away. They were also very quiet and a comfortable replacement for the original Michelins. And, from TireRack the price was a bargain in the 235-55-17 size I used (less than $100 w/S&H). Had I not traded the car on my current 530xi the Pirelli's would have yielded about 40K+ miles of treadlife.

I don't know (in the M&S rated model) if lower profile sizes are available or would be suitable for a 5'er with the sports package. That said I would not personally recommend them to someone looking for a tire that fits an aggressive driving style.
