i need some confirmation before i pull the triggger. can i put 245/40 and 275/35 on my car. i have a 07 530i non-sport. i know the manual says 245/35 and 275/30. just wondering if i could go with a more meatier tires. the wife drives the car from time to time but she doesnt care about the wheels as much as i do. also, if i can, what would be the effect as far as handling/ride comfort goes. thanks everybody!

Id stick to the recommended 245/35/19 and 275/30/19, those sidewalls are thick enough for adequate rim protection. if you were to go with even thicker sidewalls, if anything you risk chances of rubbing, but it will also depend on the offsets of the wheels.

I'm wondering the same thing. I just picked up some M5 wheels - noticing that the manual gives different sizes for 19" wheels than Tire Rack does for stock M5 fitment (255/40-19 front & 285/35-19 rear). Which way should I go? I'm not worried about the wheel getting dented more than ride quality degrading with a slightly lower profile. But it looks like the M5 fitment would increase the tire diameter as well, which would put my speedo off and maybe affect power.

i really dont know the offsets for the wheels. its the 125 style. so bottom line is go with the recommended tire size? what do you mean adequate for rim protection? adequate for regular driving even for some really messed up roads?

contacted atillathetom's contact for tires, he is willing to let me give it a go for 245/40 and 275/35. if i have any problem with it, i will just bring it in and hes gonna put 245/35 and 275/30 on.
on last question, would i need to do alignment after this wheel swap? thanks again everybody for your replies.
