I need to replace my Bridgestone RFT's and need some recommendations. My E60 is a daily driver and I don't track my car. I'm looking for something quiet for +3 hour road trips and of course great handling.

Potenza 960s are good for the 530 as per Tire Rack and since I have them I can say after 3 thousand miles they are great.

Either Bridgestone non RFTs or Michelin PS.

Discount Tire and Tire Rack match prices with others. They also have tons of reviews on tires. They rate them on noise, wear, rain, hydroplaning, snow, etc.

I was waiting for someone to mention the Generals. Do you have them and how good are they without considering the cost?

Generals are one of the bargain choices, if you just want to cruise down the highway are 80mph I'm sure they are fine. But tires are like cars/BMW's... the more expensive brands are better (Michelin) whether they are worth the premium, like BMW's, is an individual decision.

Considering that I pay the premium for a car that performs as BMW's do and I usually only buy tires once or twice in a cars life, I don't look for bargain tires I look for the best price on the best tires.

Car & Driver once wrote that 50% of cars ride and handling is based on tires.

The nice thing about the Tire Rack reviews is that you can filter them by make of car. Based on those reviews from other BMW owners I replaced my Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires with the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S and could not be happier with the comfortable and quiet ride. I ended up getting them at Discount Tire. If you add in the shipping and the cost of the pro-rated Road Hazard Warranty from Tire Rack the price is a "wash". Also, through Discount Tire you have the option of getting the free replacement Road Hazard Warranty.

M+S, doesn't that mean it's a winter tire?

I would agree with the Michelin recommendation, although they're usually quite pricey. I have also had good experiences with Dunlop Sport Maxx and Continental Sport Contact and I hear Falken 452 is a good low price alternative, but I have yet to try them.
