I have 45% tint on all my windows, that is enough to keep prying eyes out at night, not look too ghetto and keep the heat out whilst still looking far better than stock.

Only on the back window did I go darker and think that is 15%.

Black525i, a color tint? Sorry, I feel so ignorant about all this. If I tint it 35% or 50%, I assume this would be black, just lighter?

gIzzE, definitely don't want to look ghetto!

Recently got mine tinted. Looks GREAT on any darker car.

I suggest you go as dark as is legal (not really that dark except on back window) so you don't run into any trouble during state inspections, police, etc.

Also, suggest you make sure they are using quality non-metallic film backed by a lifetime warranty from a place that has been in business a long time with many satisfied customers.

Finally, make sure and have them do the front and back side windows the same tint, not darker on the rear sides. A decent price would be $200-250 for quality.

You should tint and go as dark as you legally can. I have had 5 BMW's and I have tinted all of them. My current 5 series has tan leather, so even though I went as dark as I could, it is still not dark enough. A gray or black leather will make the tint darker so keep that in mind.

I got silver grey on the outside and black on the inside. No tint. I really thought about it hard when I first got the car, and got a lot of awesome advice on tinting on this forum. Sun and eye was the issue, but I remedied it with sunglasses. Why no tint? I have rear shades and my black interior with a tint would make it look darker. On an orient blue, I would tint to make the dark color a "fuller look."

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to consider doing a tint, although, I will not go very dark, just a personal preference.. will have pictures when I get them done.

Hi octee:

I am glad you are here. You are making a great contribution. I like light tint. I got Huber Optik Drei Tint. It can be found on the web. It is light, but affords maximum heat and light rejection. To get an idea of its darkness, check out the Eye Candy link linked in my sig.

Be aware that metallic, i.e. cheap, tints reportedly can interfere with your cars AM reception, remote door opening and god knows what else. Be prepared to spend up to $500 on Huber Ceramic tint. Google Huber Optik and check out their website to find a dealer near you. Visit him and obtain samples of their products. Then drive around with the samples for a few days and look through them during various lighting conditions.

Your Huber Optik dealer also has a neat demonstration of just how effective the heat reflection is. Check it out. The beauty of Huber ceramic films is that the heat rejection is quite high already on the light tint.

My Ride: 07 BMW 525i Premium Package, Xenon Lighting Package, manual Transmission. Titanium Grey, 20% Tint around the back, 70% V-Kool on front. Planned mods: Style 71 wheels with Toyo Proxy 4 tires, Sachs suspension upgrade, upgraded stereo, and many more to come.
Default

I did mine with 20% on the back door and rear, and 70% on the front called V-Kool. The V-Kool stuff has very high heat rejection but at the same time looks very light. Seems like the only bad thing is the cost. I think the V-Kool feels just as cool (if not cooler) than the 20% metallic tint.

My car is titanium gray and we like it. Although many suggests doing the same % all around, check with your state to see how high you can go up front. In California you are not supposed to tint the front, but I figure 70% should be okay, and I think it looks fine that way too (different shades between front and back).

Good luck! I think it will look nice on a 5.

Quick Reply: To tint or not to tint.. that is the question!
