Three Stage Intake Manifold Conversion for 525i - 50+HP Gain!
#121
Hey Nigel,
So have you done any comparison to the 530i? Im just curious if it will be as quick or similarly as agile as the 530i. Also I assume anyone with a 525i should expect less hp due to the fact that you have additional mods to right?
Thanks
Randy

Great project. I also own a 2007 525xi.
Are you sure the RPI fits on the 525xi?
I was told that the xi's have a different exhaust path than the typical 525i's.

In an effort to squeeze every last HP I can out of the car, I've decided also to add an exhaust system to the mix. The three choices were the REMUS RM Dual Tip, Eisenmann Performance Exhaust or Race Precision. Given my past experiences with Michael at Acute Performance and some of the sound clips I've been listening to on Youtube (not to mention the claims of Dyno testing yielding a 10whp gain and over 20wtq over the stock exhaust), I think the RPI GT Axleback Exhaust will be my choice. I already have the RPi Ram Air Induction Kit installed and BMI Filter with charcoal filter out.
Here's a sound clip, (whiles it definitely no M5 or the likes, it does sound a lot better than stock).

Unfortunately I have not yet been able to compare side-by-side performance with my car and a 530i however I am still waiting for the chance to do so. To answer you second question, yes, due to modifications done on my car to the Intake Manifold, ECU re-map, forced air intake scoop, carbon filter delete and RPI exhaust system; my car is putting out about 20%-25% more horsepower and torque over a stock 525i.
Cheers,

Thanks for the positive feedback. It us much appreciated.
I can tell you with certainty that the RPI axle-back exhaust will fit a 525i perfectly however I am not sure about the xi install. In actuality RPIs website does not list this kit as available for the 525xi. If you want to be sure, your best bet may be to get in contact with them to verify.
Let us know your findings also.
Cheers.

Oh sorry i worded that wrong. I meant a 525i with the ecu remap and 3 stage manifold, we should still be expecting slightly lower numbers? Also any idea what differnce there would be with a xi model?
Thanks alot Nigel great work aswell car looks nuts.

There would be no difference, it's the same engine.

Still loving your tune? Now that I have an X3 with 260hp my 525xi is feeling really slow now! Getting this done in the spring for sure. Do you have any contacts you could give me for the programming side of things, I'm assuming I will need to send my ecu out?

D33ZNUT5,
I am still very much enjoying this mod and the extra power I get out of my E60. In fact I've decided to keep the car for another year whiles waiting for a move to the X6. In terms of programming, Active Autowerks did my ECU re-map (twice). Their contact info is as follows:
Active Autowerke

Good luck and be sure to let us know how it turns out!

Has anyone managed to source these parts from a wrecker? I'm sure there must be lots of 530's out there to pick from. This seems like the type of part that would be pretty sturdy and ok to buy used. Trying to get all my ducks lined up for spring
