My Ride: 07 BMW 525i Premium Package, Xenon Lighting Package, manual Transmission. Titanium Grey, 20% Tint around the back, 70% V-Kool on front. Planned mods: Style 71 wheels with Toyo Proxy 4 tires, Sachs suspension upgrade, upgraded stereo, and many more to come.

Is there a tire pressure sensor in the OEM rims, and can you transfer that over to your new rims? Is this sensor embedded inside meaning you have to unmount the wheel from the tires to remove that? Would the sensors worked on any type of wheels?
If I don't have run flats, does it really matter if I don't have the sensors in the new wheels? Is that something I can disable the warning in idrive or do I pretty much have to live the TPM light being on?

Thanks!

There is no embedded sensor in the tire or in the rim. Your car piggy backs off the anti-lock system. It senses a slower rolling wheel and will assume there is a flat.

07 models have the TPM on the valve stem instead of the brake drums.

I don't think that's right. I believe TPM does now work with sensors, it's mentioned in the manual.

The sensors are now on the back side of the valve stem. I think they are one unit.

So, if I just ordered new 19" M5 wheels and tires and they aready put the stems on, how do I take care of this issue if I have not put the new wheels on the car?
Do I need to redo the stems?
This would really be bad because I already had the wheel dealer put new tires on and balance them (it cost approx. $120 for the balancing)

I just bought new tires and rims for my 2007 530XI. I had to order 4 tire pressure monitor units at about $30.00 each and the metal valve stems. One of the ways to tell if the TPM's are in the wheels is that there are metal not rubber valve stems.

Do you have the BMW P/N for the wheel mounted TPM units? If you bought aftermarket rims, which ones did you purchase? I'd like to know how you determine if the TPM units will fit the aftermarket rims.
