Eventually I want to lower the car maybe around 1.5". However, I want to keep the current ride. What options do I have? It seems every coilover out there will make the ride stiffer even at it's softest setting. I don't consider myself an agressive driver so taking fast corners is not a priority. However, I'll probably get stiffer sway bars for that later on.

Best springs to use are Eibach, you get to keep the comfort but the handling suffers just a little bit, from my opinion. since you're not going be driving aggressive you probably would not even notice it. I have own quite a bit of BMW's and have used H&R and Eibach springs. H&R definitely give you a stiffer ride and sacrifice a little bit of comfort but handling is improved. I currently have eibach sportline on my 545i and it's very comfortable. I wouldn't recommend coil overs at all if you like comfort.

+1 on that question. I just received a set of Bilstein shocks to go with my Eibach springs and am hesitant to install because I'm not sure what the ride quality will be. I had the Eibachs on with non-sport shocks a while ago and the ride was pretty good, just rubbed alot so I took them off (not realizing I actually had the wrong size tire in the rear...285 vs 275). I want the lowered look but people said the stock shocks will blow sooner than later with Eibachs on.
So I got new shocks and will have those reinstalled with the Eibachs to kill 2 birds.

My Ride: 530I Silver gray with gray leather with Premium Package, Logic 7 Premium sound system with Ipod interface, xenon adaptive headlights, Active steering, Power retractable rear sunshade, Comfort seats, Cold weather package and M5 OEM 166 wheels, Sprintbooster. Ceramic Tint all around, Bilstein Sports shocks with Eibach springs, Brake performance Rotors and Axxis ceramic pads.
I have eibach springs and Biltein sport shocks. They ride close to OEM sports suspension.

+1 for the springs, eibachs will ride closest to stock suspension. for coilovers, Id recommend V2s. we just did a set of V2s on a customer's 550 this week and he had no complaints having his family in the car.
