Alex,
How about the RPM, MPH, Mileage, Temperature, MPG, etc. If we encode it at the dealer, Is it going to work properly?
Surely, no probs for RPM and MPH .
Check the nick's video : it seems all works .
But he has manual transmission, thus we can't have confirm about gear engaged because on manual transmission there isn't the gear .
On the steptronic it seems there are problems, for sure on iDrive .

I have an SMG and I wait for the calling from the dealer, to go there and swap my cluster with the M5 one to verify if it displays 1, 2, 3, D1, D2, D2, etc.

I'm not sure if we can replace the orange little screen. Well, worth of try.

Thanks,
The orange little screen could be the same in both clusters, but electronic parts can send a different signal to the screens .
My problem is that if you have manual transmission you can drive also without seeing the gear engaged . The same with steptronic . But with SMG transmission you absolutely need to see the gear .

HS, no friend with an M5 ?

Alex,
Mine is Steptronic. I'm driving 645ci but it is the same system.
When I'm driving with the manual mode, the display is very important, especially with the SMG Steering wheel, I have to see the 1,2,3,...
My friend has the M6 but I don't think he will allow me to swap the speedo.
I think we have to wait and see. I asked my dealer, they are not sure about this conversion.

Thanks Alex.

Ask to your friend : you need an M6 and 10 minutes at the dealer for the swap .
No risks .
In the meantime, I will continue to call the technician for asking if they have there for service an M5 .

HS, the problem is the orange little screen in the center of the cluster : does it displays the gear, 1, D1, N, R, etc.. ?
If yes we all will buy it ...

Someone like Nick has to go to the dealer to encode it, to relate it to the car : he has the cluster at home and he wants to install it permanently : I don't know why he is waiting for coding it ..
I need some special tools to reset/clear the stored M5 info, something like this one here

Thus do you think that buying a new cluster by the dealer (EUR 5-600) is better than a used one ?
