jobs done, not as straight forward as it 1st appeared with various things being in the way so took about 4 hours.
Attachment 84333
the rubber does seem softer on the old one and you can see a gap between the metal bush inner and the rubber at the front, that gap isnt there on the new one, so either wear has created the gap or has been redesigned.
They do seem to have done the job and the suspension feels taught again with the feedback thru the steering youd expect.

Any chance of a DIY?

When you had the old/defective control arm, did the car feel bumpy when going over bumps or over a raised lip at the front of a driveway, and with a knocking coming through the steeriing wheel or as if the steering components are loose?
Any idea if these can fail repeatedly? If so, how often - same 50-70k mile intervals?

Yes, very similar symptoms, also had excessive feedback thru the steering wheel when hitting severe bumps/pot holes

This thread is timed perfectly...
Yesterday I heard some rubbery-sounding creaks coming from the right side when I made two different right turns at slow speeds. I hadn't taken the car out for about a week or so, and it recently had a lube/service.
It was hot outside (90+), and I didn't hear the noise again... but it got me wondering how the bushings on these cars are. Now I know this assembly is something to keep an "ear" on.

He diagnosed that the tie rods were worn out, and he replaced them, which seems to have done the trick.
It cost me USD 530 included taxes and this also included 1 hours labour for the install and 1.5 hours to do the alignment.
What are tie rods Vs tension struts Vs control arms ?

Just got my car back from the automotive shop (an independant specialist not a dealer).

Control arm is the rear lower arm.

Knocking at the steering wheel - i had my car looked at for that reason just before my CPO service kicked in but the dealer could not reproduce.
I know it was mentioned that CPO doesn't cover the tensionstrut/ control arm bushes but did any of you have this changed under standard warranty? If so, maybe the dealer will address it on mine (if it is the culprit) since i did report this during my standard warranty period.
