Hi,

I recently changed suspension to kw coils and have since noticed squeeks coming from the rear seat that were not there prior to suspension swap. I spoke to the mechanic and he said he had to REMOVE THE REAR SEAT to change rear suspension!?!?!? I now assume that in re-assembling the rear seat, the parts didn't go back together exactly as they were installed at the factory, hence the new squeeks.

Is it really necessary to remove the rear seat to change rear suspension on a 2006 e60?????

I don't have folding seats BTW.

Thanks for your help

Sorry I can't answer if the rear seats needed to be removed, I would just be guessing.

I did want to ask how much did you drop your car (front/rear)? and what size rims do you have? The drop looks really good. I am planning on dropping my ride so just doing some research.

Thanks and good luck with finding the solution for your issue.

Well the suspension I installed is height adjustable, so I couldn't give you and exact amount I dropped it. I think you can go down 2" if you wish. There was a lot of room left to go lower in the front on mine, and just a little lower was possible in the rear (looking at how many threads were showing below adjustment ring)

I can however highly recommend the KW Streetcomfort coilovers though. Rides as smooth as oem over bumps and handles like a dream now. Turns at speed are absolutely incredible. I've done springs/shocks before and believe me this is the way to go. Pricewise it's not that much more either. Good springs and shocks will run you about 1000, these cost me 1600 I believe.

No the car isnt a E39 LOL...I have non folding seats. And kw coils and all you have to do is take out some trunk liner screws pull out the side boxes and then remove foam over the strut. Maybe he didnt install the rears correctly..thats a guess. Take it back and have them show you what they took out

Damn, so pissed right now. These squeeks could have been avoided.

He specifically told me he removed the entire rear seat. faaaaaaack.

Yep, there's definitely not any reason to remove the rear seat when changing suspension.
If you like to solve the situation by yourself, then removing the rear seat is a 10min job.

I have kw coilovers and rear seats did NOT have to be removed for installation.

Not just the cushions right? You are talking about the actual structure? If it's that easy I may try it. Just some screws I assume?

Thanks.

Ok.

1) Remove the rear seat (cushion): http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/08/81/93
2) Open the locks (emergency actuators) in the trunk. They are holding the upper edge of the backrest in place.
- Put a screwdriver in the hole and move the switch to open the lock
- You may need to try it into what direction you need to move the screwdriver because I don't remember it

3) Remove the backrest: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/08/82/40

The only tricky part is to figure out in what direction you have to move the screwdriver in the emergency actuator hole to open the lock.
