I really like the 124's on my 545 , yes it is easy to clean , looks classy and sport at the same time when the wheels are shining and clean , but the 172's is my favorite , and if you eventually ended up getting those , let me know , I would like to buy from you if you sell it.

I just switched to the M172s from the M166s, but only because of spacer/fitment/winter-wheel reasons. The M166s are still my favourite OEM rims... especially on a carbon black E60 m-sport!

On my E60s I put the factory rims (M135s) in storage and fitted the M166s, then fitted the M135s back on again when it was time to return my company car to the leasing company.
Other forum posts (here and elsewhere) indicate a higher than average failure rate on the 124s. (Cracks.) ???

When I bought my 2005, the dealer had some after market rims on it. I thought they were a bit much and didn't want to pay for them. Eventually, the dealer put the 124s on and I really like them. Mine is titanium silver and I think they match the look of the car quite nicely.

No offense to any of you with the newer e60's, but I've not been able to wrap myself around the style 172's offered on the '08 & '09 550 cars with the sport package, and really prefer the 124's. I guess they seem closer to the 166's that make the M5's so hot. %The 172's seem closer to the wheels on the MB 550!

Anyhow, I'm just curious what the rest of you think.

As my lease return date draws near, I wonder about getting a newer 550, and switching the wheels with my present ones, and returning my car with the 172's on it. But, I'm guessing BMW might catch on.

+1 for 124s. If I have a chance for upgrade, I would go for the M167 or M166, Not too thrill about the 172s.

Appearance aside, the 172's are a bitch to clean ..............unless you get dustless pads !!!! I put 166's on my new car because my old one had 172's . 166's look good and are soooooo easy to clean !!

It takes me 35 minutes to wash and dry the car and about the same to do the 172's.....there is always alot of swearing and wishing i went for the 128's (which i nearly did) but once there all done and i stand back to take a look......all is forgiven.....love wasn't meant to be easy!!!

The ten-legged tarantula look of the 172 is cool, but I like the 124s. One of the first e60s I saw had them, and got a set within a few months of purchase (had stock 138s).
wow.. thats a funny analogy calvin.. so i look like a tarantula creeping along.. ready to eat whatever is in my path.. ( i like that) it fits me..

get the 172's and just clean em alot!!! stop complaining people they look better and you all know it!!! lmao.. j/k
