My Ride: /// 2006 | 530I | Silver Gray Metallic | Sport / Prem / Navi / IPod | LCI EURO SPEC Tail's | LED Licence plate bulbs | LED side turn indicators | Roof Spoiler MORE TO COME!!!!
Alright, well my light came on in the instrument cluster...
Took it into the dealer, they said I need a new battery...
So I thought they would cover it under the extended service or maintenance policy (which I have).
Apparently not, they do windshield wipers, brakes, every thing else, but apparently the batter is not covered.
Has anyone experienced this??? Cost is 430.00.
And what is the whole thing with reprogramming it.
I guess its needed only if you get a new battery thats not EXACTLY the same as the original ie, CC amps and some other specs...
Also, Where can I get a comparable one or Original one. Not from the stealership though...
Thx,

I have read that Autozone can do it without the programming, but you may or may not run into issues ( search for real life stories on that ). also, if you find an independant bmw repair shop I am sure they can do it for less than $430.

Thx Sluis530,
I found a thread on another forum,
I can do it, and get it programed by the dealer. Now just need to find out about the costs.
Any recommendations on aftermarket battery's, or a place to get CHEAP Original ones...

Dude, I went to Wal Mart and bought the battery they recommended. Its not exact but I have had it for almost a year with no issues. I think it was $80 bucks and I never got it programmed...

I believe that the battery(110AH 850CCA) costs $229 at the dealership.

Shouldn't BMW cover the battery regardless if you have the service and maintenance plan...
I mean everything else is covered, even wiper blades (wear and tear), rotors/brake pads (wear and tear)
It does not make sense why they would not cover it...
Here is the break down:
Part # 61-21-7-591-085 (mfg: exide, 110a) Price: $227.00
Labor: $200.00 (WOW)(estimated time on labor is 2.0 hrs)
Tax and other stuff
Total: $451.11 (they are just bending people over left and right)

I wouldnt spend that much for a battery which barely even comes with a warranty. The battery from wal mart is covered for 7 years!!!

Yeah, but worried about the whole electronic system.
Just came back from the local dealer.
Basically he said, extended warranty does not cover the battery.
Get a new one, and you will be fine. I didnt know a battery change was soo much of an issue with these cars...
