So the US-spec E39 had the so-called Eurodash implemented here in the US to improve the lines and storage capacity of the E39's dash.

We came to find out that the US needs additional protection placed into the dashboard knee area and thus it kind of messes up the nice flowing lines of the dash. It also took away some little cubby holes on the dash.

Well, I didn't believe it was possible, but the E60 has even less usable storage space than the E39!

So, with that in mind, has anyone figured out the "Eurodash" conversion for the US-spec E60s? My apologies if this has been discussed before but I did do some searching to no avail.

I did find this pic from Rudy This could be start to getting some more storage in the E60.

Anyone figure out how to remove that stupid little phone storge device in the armrest? I'd like to yank it out or replace it with something else if available.

Thanks!

I think I remember that the hole for the cubby part is one huge dash piece so to retrofit it on a car that doesn't have it (US cars for sure) would mean a pretty expensive part.

According to the online parts catalog, the dashboard is about $429 US and the cubby is under $20.

Seems a bit much for adding such a small storage space...

If Agent99 wants to pay for a new dash, he most certainly can get his cubby...

As far as removing the center storage thingy in the console, I posted instructions many moons ago that detailed all the steps needed to remove the entire console. From there, there should be a way to remove the storage thingy. I think some people have cut them out (ouch) but there has to be a more elegant way to remove it. I don't remember anyone actually using my instructions and reporting back how things worked so maybe Agent99 can be the first?

edit: Here's a link to the instructions... Good luck!

$400!!!! :'(

Sigh....so much for trying to get a cubby hole. I was thinking if it was under $100 that I might do it but this is 4X+ that.

Okay, I'll volunteer to work on the "yank the phone thingy out" and take pics and post 'em for everyone.

Thanks, Rudy!

$400 for this tiny cubby hole. That appears to me to equate to about $650,000 per cubic foot of storage space. Only BMW could get away with this!

Not sure how that can be...as I recall the e39 didn't have a center console compartment and not all cars got front seat back storage compartments and there was no transmission tunnel storage net and no storage area inside the rear center armrest. Glove box seems to be the same size as do door compartments.

There is a possibility of Cutting.
Look at it this way, if you screw up the cut, then you have a reason to drop the 400 bucks.
I thought about myself but I can't risk putting my baby under the knife.

Maybe I can get my hands on a wrecked E60 and pull the dash.

I thought of the cutting option as well but without seeing the factory cutout, it's hard to know whether or not this would work. I'm thinking that the factory cutout might have some sort of molded recess around the perimeter (it may not just be a straight hole in the US part) to allow the cubby part to fit flush against the face of the dash...
