So I finally changed the front bumper and figured I'd post some hints for other people doing the same mod on topics that at least I could not find answers to before I started.

1. Air ducts. The old ones won't fit at all so the pictures you find in other threads is probably of M-sport air ducts. M5 ones are appr double the price of standard/M-sport but I'll probably still get them.

2. Foam parts. I ended up buying the 2 foam shock absobers but when comparing them to the standard ones I couldn't really see any difference so if I do this again I'd probably stick with the old foam parts.

3. Removing the bumper. To get the bumper out of the brackets, the instruction tells you to push it backward and pull out. That did not work at all for me and I was afraid to ruin the bracket/tabs/bumper. I you however bend the fender liner to the side, you will get access to the bracket and it's possible to use a flat screwdriver to bend down 2 of the tabs to release the bumper. Once those 2 are loose, you can wiggle the bumper a little until you get sufficient gap to attack the 3rd tab from the outside. This worked very well for me.

4. There is NO cutting needed on the fender liners if you go from standard to M5. Just make sure you have a slot in your M5 bumper for the 2 spring nuts where you bolt the fender liner.

5. I could not get the 10mm bolt in the fender liner that also bolts the fender upward to line up with the other holes in the brackets.. Will have to think a little more on that one as it will be necessary to get a better fit.

Anyway, here are some pics on the result. While I was at it I also painted my calipers, installed M5 mirrors, black grilles, CF roundels, BMW wheelcaps and xenon look angeleyes

Thanks, not the best fit but acceptable...will be better once I can get that 10mm bolt there but there will still be some 5-10mm offset between bumper and fender.

I keep saying this again and again, but the M5 bumper looks so much better than mtech!

Other mods are cool too. I am about to paint my calipers too .

A bit new here, but couldnt find clear answers... how much does it cost approximately to have the M5 front bumper installed? and do you take it to someone for painting, do you buy pre-painted, or is it a diy?
bumper lookd great on your car
