stainless steel lip vs chrome lip

I have rims with stainless lips on my other car, it is an overlay - the rim is alloy, I do not know why they made them this way (to save ?$?).

My advice it to avoid it - you can scratch stainless lips with even the wrong type of rag - chrome is much more durable and forgiving.

EDIT: you can tell a stainless lip by tapping lightly on it with your fingernail - stainless will have a tinny, almost hollow sound. This is my second set of rims with this type of lip, the first set was on an SUV years ago.

Chrome is going to pop more and be much easier to clean. Polished lips require regular maintenance and are harder to clean. They are more of a subtle look when compared with the chrome so it depends on what look you are going for.

id rather have chrome lip but im having trouble finding a set of rims with a chrome lip and black center, simliar to mrr gt1 and beyern mesh style. does anyone know of wheels that have this look but also have chrome lip???

I think the difference between Beyern mesh and petrol is that the lip on the petrols is High polished Vs polished then clear coat over it lip. To me it looks shinier

VMR makes wheels that have stainless steel lips.

In my experience, polished lips are (by far) the most difficult to maintain, followed by stainless, followed by chrome.

My experience with my DPE's (which have a polished lip) is that its a pain you get water stains and pretty much every other kind of stain that you have to polish out all the time but once polished they look amazing (wheel wax helps keep the look a little longer). Where as with my beyern's that I had on the e46 (which had a clear coated lip) they were very easy to clean just basically washed it like you would your car body (soup and water and occasional wax) however the clearcoat started pitting from the brake dust then started to peel. Also when you get road rash and want it fixed, no problem on a polished lip but on a clear coated lip they can't put the clear coat back on (at least in the shops where I'm from). So from what I hear chrome lip is probably the easiest to care for but I don't think you can really repair a rashed chrome lip either (could be wrong, but I would think that you would have to re-dip them whole thing).
