Boy you really like to ramble on.... member since last month and already have 250+ post. But I guess thats whats the forum is for right
I may have not used the correct verbiage on my explanation but in regards to 10% or so but most got the idea. This only means 1 thing... we must test it. Lets get someone with a SB and someone without and line em up and race from a dead stop. let 1 guy put the pedal to the metal the old school way and the other do what he does... and lets see who pulls a so called half a car and stays there because of their SB jumped of the line like a rocket. Ofcourse both cars must be the same engine specs and mods not to skew the results.
and yeah after this i'll maybe just maybe pay the man that makes it.

First your verbage was fine and your explanation was spot on. What I think I failed to say is that you are perfectly correct in saying in regads to that aspect-yes you can do the same thing by mashing the pedal. The feature of amplifying the pedal travel can be done by simply stepping on the pedal further so you are not wrong.
But I just wanted to point out the SB did 2 additional things and not just that, which are not repeatable by your foot. Which is how fast it creates a kickdown even after kickdown is engaged, which you cannot to by foot-you can engage kickdown by your foot but once its about to shift you cannot change the speed it kicks down. Second the speed at which the signal is transmitted cannot be controlled. You can floor it to the ground from a stop and there will be a lag every time. There is no lag with the sB so that cannot be replicated by foot.
I am not saying its going to increase your 0-60 times or anything because if you are racing you are going to drop the clutch from higher rpms or power brake an auto-and get some wheel spin and eliminate any lag like that so in a true race it wont make a diff since there is no lag if you power brake/drop clutch.
I do believe if 2 exactly same cars-one with and one without-simply didnt power brake and both just stepped on the pedal the SB would have a slight jump. I ddnt buy it to improve racing times or speed. It increases the fun-to-drive factor. My intake didnt add much hp ir any but it made my car 100 times more fun to drive when I first got that.
anyway obviously I am a SB fan

It's great to hear that it does wonderful things for the car. I'm just curious as to how it actually *does* this. Looking at it, it doesn't seem much more than $2.50 in parts from Radio Shack (at least in pictures).
If there is any question about why I am curious about this, consider that I am an engineering type that needs to know how and why things work. I'm still looking for a way to hack into iDrive and eliminate the need for the dealer.

There's actually the NY E60 Dinner/Meet tomorrow night in Lower Manhattan. Member slickrick will be there with his 535. I'm thinking about taking mine out and popping it into his car and see what the difference is. Will let you know.

By no means I am an engineer or electrical person so that is your field-you tellus-what type of wiring or "chip" can amplify both amplitude and velocity of a drive-by-wire signal to the cars computer? That seems in essense to be what it does

It's not hard - just a basic signal processor that takes the input resistance/voltage/signal and amplifies it by 1.3 which is what the SB does. I'm no electronics expert but it's a very simple system. In terms of parts, you have the special type plug and socket, then the housing for the chip, good quality cable, and of course - the profit margin. It's probably more like $8-$10 in parts - but you don't buy something like this for the "parts", you buy it for the "results". Take my recent DMS remap ... in the region of ?750 on each car for _SOFTWARE_ reprogramming. There was no physical item purchased at all.

Ok! I understood how SB acctualy works and it sound interesting and also fun! But I've got two issues:
1. How it will be on winter time when I'll not need to sprint from a stop light and just to start slowly ....?
2. How it will be in a very busy city, where the traffic is so difficult I ussualy do 2miles/hour...?
Do I have to disconnect it every time when one of this situations appears? Has enyone try it in the winter, yet?
